What Size Pet Urn Do I Need?

Feb 13, 2023

Determining the Size Urn You Need for Your Pet’s Ashes

Our pets are our best friends. They love us unconditionally. They are always there for us when we are feeling down and give us warmth and comfort all the time. Our pets are more than just animals, they are like family. Unfortunately, just like us, pets do not live forever. Upon their passing, we want to remember them and cherish the time we had with them. One way we do this is by keeping their ashes in a beautiful urn.

One important thing to remember when you are purchasing an urn is that size matters. The larger your pet is, the larger the urn you will need. A rule of thumb is that you will need one cubic inch for every pound that your furry friend weighs. For example, if your pet weighs 75 pounds, you will need an urn that is 75 cubic inches or more.

Additionally, it is better to err on the side of caution and have some extra space in the urn. Including an additional 10 cubic inches onto your estimate will help ensure the ashes are able to be properly contained. In the event that the pet urn you select turns out to be too small for the entirety of the remains, you might consider scattering the leftover ashes. This can be a powerful grieving ritual at various places that were important and meaningful to you and your pet. The knowledgeable experts at our pet cemetery will be happy to help you make the best selection and answer any further questions you may have.
